Shampoo for Hair Loss

OGX Niacin3 & Caffeine Shampoo and Conditioner

I bumped into the OGX Niacin3 and Caffeine Shampoo and Conditioner sometime back when I was in Boots looking for a new shampoo, one preferably that would make my locks look thick and healthy. At the time my hair was falling out and thinning like nobody’s business. I did eye up some of the hair treatments and tonics for hair loss, but they were a bit pricey and with no guarantee of it working, I skipped the idea.

I decided to settle for the OGX Shampoo and Conditioner as it claimed to fight fall out, and as it is a shampoo, I meant did not have to add an additional step to my hair care routine and it was priced at £6.99 each.

Now the Shampoo and Conditioner both claim to have a powerful blend of ingredients that can help prevent hair fallout caused by breakage. The ingredients are Niacin3, Caffeine, AlphaHydroxy Acid and Saw Palm.

  • Niacin3 is basically vitamin B3 and it helps structure blood cells and improves circulation, so if you think about it, if you have better circulation to you hair follicles, then you have more oxygen and nutrients to the hair follicles.
  • Caffeine, well we all know what affects it has on our brain, but the people in the white lab coats have also discovered that it can make your hair grow faster as it stimulates the hair shaft and also blocks the effects of DHT( DHT can make the hair follicles smaller).
  • AlphaHydroxy Acid, you might be more used to seeing it on skin care products as AHA or glycolic acid. So from what I can understand AHA in shampoos can help with the cleaning process by stripping the hair of dirt without stripping it of moisture. They are also known to aid in detangling as it strengthens and moisturize the hair.
  • Saw Palm, is a plant and a herbal remedy used to treat an enlarges prostate, but it can also be beneficial for your hair as it blocks the enzyme that converts testosterone into DHT, which as you know from above, causes the hair follicle to become smaller.

So a bit of a science lesson there, but having researched the main ingredients I now understand that the results were not just luck, or my hair just deciding to behave itself, but rather the ingredients may have actually helped. For me, I definitely saw a positive result with this Shampoo and Conditioner. I notice a difference after 5-6 washes, my hair was not falling out as much, and my hair was getting thicker again. The Conditioner was also very good, my hair felt quite moisturized compared to other conditioners I have used. It almost made my hair feel as though I had applied some deep conditioner or treatment. Oh and the smell, no unfortunately it does not smell of coffee, sorry to disappoint, but it smells minty, I love mints so this was heaven for me. So will I buy it again, YES! , in fact I already have, I am now on my second bottle.

***I would just like to put a little disclaim out there, if you are suffering from hair loss which you do not think is normal for you, it is important to speak to a medication practitioner, as there might be underlying issues which may be causing this. I am in no way claiming that these products are a cure for hair loss or/ and medical conditions which may be contributing to hair loss.
